Get named when drivers ask who to trust.

Drivers ask assistants which mechanic is honest, who can look at a check engine light today and what a brake job should cost. Speak Local shows which shops get named, and checks the pages, listings and reviews the answers come from.

Free, in under a minute, no email or card. It grades up to 25 pages across Local, SEO, AEO and GEO.

The short answer

How does an auto repair shop get recommended in Google Maps and AI answers?

By publishing the facts drivers ask about, in text machines can read: the repairs you do, the makes you work on, price ranges, hours, how soon you can look at a car and what your warranty covers, on your website and your Google Business Profile. Reviews that name the job and the car do the rest, because assistants summarize them when someone asks which shop to trust. Mark the shop up as an AutoRepair, or an AutoBodyShop for collision work.

What do drivers ask before they choose a shop?

Drivers ask about trust, price and timing. These six are worth tracking:

  • Honest mechanic near me
  • How much does a brake job cost in your city?
  • Who can diagnose my check engine light today in your city?
  • Best shop for your make repairs in your area
  • Is it worth fixing a car with 150,000 miles?
  • Do I have to go to the dealer to keep my warranty?

These are examples to adapt. Put the ones that bring you business to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini on a weekly or monthly round, and each answer is recorded as named, cited or absent, with whoever was named in your place. How AI answers are tracked

What do Google and AI assistants weigh for an auto repair shop?

Drivers want a shop they can trust with an expensive job they don’t fully understand, and engines look for the same signs they do.

A page for each repair you want

Brakes, diagnostics, alignments and transmissions are different searches from different drivers, often in a hurry. A single services page listing them gives none of them a page to rank. Each job worth having needs its own page: what it involves, roughly what it costs and how long it takes.

Prices in ranges, written down

Drivers ask what a repair costs, and an assistant can only quote a figure someone has published. A sentence like “front pads and rotors usually cost [a range], depending on the car” gives it one, and sets an honest expectation before the car arrives.

Credentials drivers recognize

Name the certifications your technicians hold, such as ASE, and the makes you specialize in, on your site and your profile. For collision work, say which manufacturer programs you belong to. A named, checkable credential tells a driver and an engine more than “quality work” does.

Reviews that name the job and the car

“Diagnosed the misfire on my Outback the same afternoon” tells an assistant what you fix, on what and how fast. Ask every customer after every job, the same way. Google’s policy says not to suggest wording, not to ask only happy customers and not to offer anything in return.

Which schema should an auto repair shop use?

AutoRepair for a mechanical repair shop and AutoBodyShop for collision work, both schema.org automotive businesses. A shop that does both can describe the body shop as a department with its own hours and phone. A tire specialist can use TireShop, a schema.org store type.

List the repairs you want calls for in an hasOfferCatalog, and the makes you work on in your description. Speak Local’s scanner reads each of these types as entity schema on your homepage.

Worth checking: that the hours in your schema match your Google listing, Saturdays included. A driver choosing where to drop the car off at 7am needs the right opening time, and so does the assistant they ask.

Worth adding
  • openingHoursSpecification, matching your Google listing
  • hasOfferCatalog with the repairs you want calls for
  • department for a body shop with its own hours and phone
  • sameAs for your profiles on review and repair sites

Where should an auto repair shop start?

Do these in order. The first and the fourth cost nothing.

  1. Make your Google profile match the shop

The right primary category for the work that pays most, the services you do, your Saturday hours, and an appointment link if you take bookings.

  2. A page for each repair you want calls for

Brakes, diagnostics, alignments, transmissions: what each involves, a price range and how long it takes.

  3. Publish your price ranges and warranty

Ranges with what moves them, and what your parts and labor warranty covers, in text a crawler can read.

  4. Ask for a review after every job

The same way for every customer, with no wording suggested and nothing offered in return.

  5. Track the questions drivers ask

Trust, price and same-day questions on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, against the shops that already get named.

Common questions

Can we tell drivers they don’t need the dealer to keep their warranty?
You can point them to the FTC, which says drivers don’t have to use the dealer for maintenance or repairs to keep a warranty in effect. The exception is work or parts the warranty itself pays for, where the manufacturer can choose who does it and which parts are used. Drivers ask assistants this, so it is worth answering on your own site.
Should we publish prices?
Ranges, yes, where you can stand behind them. Drivers ask what repairs cost, and an assistant can only quote a figure someone has published. Say what moves the price, such as the car and the parts, and keep the ranges current.
We do collision and mechanical work. One Google listing or two?
If the body shop serves the public as its own business, with its own category and hours, Google’s guidelines may allow it a listing of its own as a department. Otherwise list both in one profile, with a category for each. Check Google’s current guidelines against your setup first.
Does Speak Local work for tire shops and body shops?
Yes. The scanner reads AutoRepair, AutoBodyShop and TireShop markup, and the rankings, map grid, reviews and AI answers work the same way for each. You choose the searches and questions your own customers use.
Can a shop with several locations track them all?
Yes. Locations on one website are locations in a single project, up to 25 of them, each with its own market, listing, reviews and rankings. Shops with their own websites are separate projects: the Freelancer plan covers ten, and Agency is unlimited.
